Hello, and welcome back to our blog here at Fitness Specialists. This is part two of our blog series about getting in shape quicker. Although not everyone has the same definition of what “in shape” means, there are several things that we can all agree on when it comes to having a better fitness life and reaching our goals quicker than we thought possible. Keep reading to learn more about this subject and be sure to contact Fitness Specialists if you’re interested in starting your own in-home gym this summer.

Change your diet

Speaking of other lifestyle changes, you’re not going to reach your peak fitness goals eating Cheetos and chugging down a liter of soda every day. Getting in shape is a serious commitment but having the best workout of your life isn’t enough to get you there, especially if you don’t have the diet to match. One problem that many people have when it comes to diet is that they simply don’t go to the grocery store enough. Studies have suggested that people who go to the store more often are more likely to eat healthy foods. That’s not to say that there aren’t unhealthy things at the store to buy, but those who don’t go to the store often are more tempted by things like fast food or any junk food of the sort.

Start by going to the store more often, let’s say twice a week, as opposed to once or twice every two weeks. Once you’ve accomplished that, start to nail down exactly what healthy foods are available to you. The good news is that if you’re not much of a cook, there are still plenty of healthy options for you. If you really want to get into it, start tracking your actual caloric intake and you’ll be surprised and just how much you’re helping yourself to get in shape just by making simple diet changes.

Drink more water

I know you’re probably told this all the time, but it’s just that important! How much water do you typically consume in a day? Double that! Then double it again. Water is the essence of life so why would you avoid it? Not only will drinking water keep you healthy and allow your body to flush out toxins that can be harmful to your body, but drinking water can also have a number of direct effects on your ability to get in shape. First of all, your brain is mostly water, so drinking enough will allow you to have the energy and willpower to make it to the gym and have a good workout. Second of all, water promotes weight loss by removing by-products of fat. It will also boost your immune system so you don’t get sick and have to take several weeks off the gym. And generally, it will make you more prepared for your workouts so you won’t be dehydrated once it comes time to run.
