Hello, and welcome back to our blog! This is our third and final blog about weekend weight loss. If you didn’t get the chance to read our first two blogs on this subject, you can read them here and here. Otherwise, keep reading to learn about several more ways you can avoid weekend weight gain and discipline yourself to maintain a healthy schedule all week long.

Take time for yourself

It’s great to spend your weekend with friends and family, but don’t forget to take some time for yourself. Although being social and active is necessary for staying happy and healthy, too much of it can leave us feeling exhausted and unprepared for the week ahead. If you notice yourself staying out late with your friends, politely tell them that you need some alone time. If you have more time to reflect, you’ll be able to concentrate more easily on your workout and diet goals without distraction.

On the other hand, spending too much time alone can also take its toll on your health. If your friends or roommates are out of town, don’t spend the weekend sitting alone in your house or apartment, try to get out and do things with family or meet someone new.

Don’t drink too much

I’m referring to both sugary drinks and alcohol here. We tend to go out to eat more, to movies, or to bars on the weekend where sugary and alcoholic drinks are present. And the truth is, neither of these drinks are great for our weight loss. Alcohol will increase your total caloric intake, decrease your motivation for exercise and may prevent you from getting sleep if you’re out late and drink too much. Also, when it comes time for breakfast, make sure you’re drinking one hundred percent fruit juice and not juice that’s filled with sugar.

Account for weekend plans

As difficult as this may be, you need to make up for any way that your weight loss schedule falters on the weekend. If you have plans to go out of town for the weekend and won’t be able to exercise, you’ll need to add in a few extra hours of exercise during the week to make up for it. The same goes for your diet. If you plan on indulging on donuts one morning with a friend, you’ll have to improve your diet during the week to get caught up again. And remember, it’s okay to indulge every once in a while, just keep yourself in control and remember the goals that you’ve set for yourself.
